Las Vegas Protective Order Lawyer

Nevada Domestic Violence Attorney

Protective orders — also known as restraining orders — are used in Nevada to keep people accused of domestic violence away from those they are accused of harming or threatening.

We are Donn Prokopius and Jeremy Beasley, Las Vegas-based lawyers representing clients throughout Southern Nevada. If you need legal protection from domestic violence, we can help. If you've been accused of domestic violence, we will make sure your side of the story gets a fair hearing.

Is a Protective Order the Right Approach for Your Case?

In Nevada, the courts can grant temporary protective orders to anyone who has been battered or threatened with domestic violence by a current or former spouse, parent, guardian, relative, boyfriend, girlfriend, roommate or other cohabitant.

Protective orders are very effective at protecting people who have been threatened with domestic violence, but they should not be used for other purposes.

Because protective orders are temporary, the process should not be used to attempt to address any long-term concerns you may have about child custody. Any custody rights granted in a protective order will be revisited in one year if not sooner.

The protective order process also should not be used to gain a perceived advantage in divorce proceedings. While legitimate domestic violence concerns often do come up during divorce cases, false allegations can be extremely damaging to both parties in the long run.

Whether you have been victimized by or accused of domestic violence, contact us to discuss the protective order process and what we can do to protect your rights.
